Know Before you Go
Planning to bring your pooch along for your Whistler adventure? There are a few things you need to know before you go to help ensure you are fully prepared for your trip to Whistler.
Vaccines
Dogs coming into Canada are not required to quarantine, but are required to be up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Ensure you have all the paperwork in order and proper documentation to avoid any hold ups during your travel.
Although Whistler has many amazing community members that look to reunite lost dogs with their owners, it is always best-case scenario when a dog has the proper identification or microchip in the case you get separated.
Whistler
Although Whistler is dog-crazy, it is important to remember that not every person you encounter here loves your furry friend as much as you do. Whistler also has strict bylaws including that dogs must be on-leash at all times while in Whistler, unless you are visiting a designated off-leash area. Here are a few things to remember:
- Dogs are not allowed on all hiking trails in Whistler. Research before you hike to avoid disappointment
- Never leave your dog unattended
- Please pick up after your pooch! Whistler does provide waste bags on junctions along the valley trail
- Always accompany your animal at night when letting them out for bathroom breaks. Whistler has many predators!
- Dogs are not allowed in/on the premises of food establishments. Make sure you make alternate arrangements for your pup before your dinner reservation

Looking for places around Whistler to let your pooch run free? There are some off-leash dog parks in Whistler including swimming areas.
Barking Bay This off-leash dog park is located at Rainbow Park, with a grassy off-leash area including a dog dock with a doggie ramp for easy access (temporarily closed summer 2023 for park upgrades)
Arfa Park Located on Alpha lake, this off-leash dog area includes a gravel area which is perfect for fetch as well a doggie dock and swimming area
Canine Cove Located at Lost Lake Park, Canine cove is the perfect wade-in doggie beach
Spruce Grove Dog are permitted at inside the field areas when not in use
Meadow Park ball fields Dogs are permitted off-leash in the ball fields when not in use
